Some considerations on the Ashley Cole transfer.

Just got back with my copy of the Times, and our good friend Matt Hughes has an article splashed across the back page regarding our dear Ashley. It seems we've rejected a £16m bid for him and have asked for £25m. Other papers have mooted Gallas and SWP as part of potential swap moves. Whatever the situation, it seems that the clubs are negotiating, or at least throwing around figures/ideas for how we can both end up reasonably happy. Apparently our new valuation may 'surprise[...] and annoy' poor Ashley, reneging on a previous 'gentlemen's agreement' we had with him that he could be sold for £15m. What Mr Hughes fails to recognise is that gentlemen's agreements can only take place between gentlemen. And i'm pretty sure Ash's antics have, just possibly, debarred him from this category.

Because if he is to go, why shouldn't we ge £20m+ for him? If Chel£ea are willing to spend that much on Essien, SWP and Drogba, Ash is surely worth as much as them. This is the Chavs we're talking about after all. Not only our they one of our closest rivals, but they have more money than everyone else in the premiership put together, and they've shown they're willing to pay over the odds. I don't see why we shouldn't try and inflate the price. If WBrom can do it to us with Davies, why can't we do it to Chelsea? I don't really care how acrimonious it becomes.

The only uncertainty of the whole business thus seems to be the fee. I would dearly love Gallas to come as part of the whole kaboodle. It would save us having to look for a c-b who could fill in on the left, and also give us a little bit more cash. I really can't see Mourinho voluntarily agreeing to this though. If we don't get him, that would still give us around £16-25m to spend on top of Arsene's transfer kitty - an amount we can only speculate on. This would surely mean Arsene goes out and buys fairly big. At least in the vein of around £6-12m per person.

Anyone have any suggestions as to who we could get? I'm not entirely convinced that Clichy has what it takes to fill in at l-b yet. I still think he needs another season or so to get rid of his sick note tendencies. And for all I love the Flamster at l-b, he's not really a long term viable solution either - unless he were to consistently start there and really get used to the role.

A player i think a lot of people were impressed with at the world-cup was Lahm. Would he be worth a punt? I saw a valuation of £10m thrown about which seemed quite reasonable. I was also intrigued by Gunnerblog's suggestion of getting Sylvinhio in. The circle would be complete if he came back to replace Ash.

In other news, Arsene has refuted any suggestion that Paddy is coming back; Nick Bendtner is not off to Rangers as Arsene has promoted him to the 1st team squad; and Yobo has signed a new Everton contract, ending conclusively any hint of him coming to us.

I think i'll wait until Ash actually goes before I write my piece on how players who've left Arsene's Arsenal have not had the best of experiences subsequently...

Fabio Grosso looked good. Certainly need some world class players in the team. After Henry, it seems hard to find any.

I say make the little tnuc stay & serve out his contract, I'd rather have the best l-b in the world than £16m in the kitty. And having seen Traore play at DB10's testimonial, I reckon stick with him & Clichy for the future.

Gelbs - you're a twat

Anonymous said...

When you get to write of the "curse of the Arsenal departed", don't forget to include the fact that Villareal (and Pires) were surprisingly knocked out of Europe last week.

Gelbs said...

Okay smart arse twat. Who do you think Arsenal's world class players are? Most of the team are kids with potential. And Goonerboy? I reckon you should do a post saying "who are Arsenal's world class players?" I reckon it be a good debate and interesting to see who people think mate.

Anonymous said...

World Class Players as requested by A Twat

Lehmann
Cole
Toure
Fabregas
Henry
v. Persie
Ljungberg

Deciduous Guacamole said...

Gelbs nothing you EVER post could be considered "good debate". All you ever do is talk sh*t and slag off the players and Arsene Wenger.
Why don't you f**k off back up the seven sister road you retard.

Anonymous said...

LOL. I'd add Rosicky too.

Gelbs said...

lol Ljungberg is no-way world class. He was once. Van Persie is quality but not yet world class, Toure I would agree with, Fabregas still has potential and hasn't done enough to warrant a world class tag, and Cole is leaving. As for Lehmann, he is a goalkeeper. Though quality

Anonymous said...

If you really believe the Chelsea Rent Boy is the best lb in the world then you are sorely mistaken. The guy gets twisted by Ronaldo every time he faces him.

Give Clichy one full season and you will see he's just as good - only difference is he's not yet an arrogant, illiterate prick who conveniently forgets where his first chance came from.

And as for the agreement - if Cole was too thick to get it in writing then once again he should question the 'advice' he receives.

Gelbs said...

Rosicky I'd agree with. So I would say about 3. Henry, Toure and Rosicky who still has to settle in. When was the last time I slagged off players? Apart from Cygan and Song. That's self explanatory.

Anonymous said...

I reckon that Arsenal have a fan-base that contains a lot of young twat-potential, but can anybody give me a list of World Class Twats that write to Arsenal blogs?

Gelbs said...

Sure. I could give you some names. Just next time you post don't be "anonymous."

Anonymous said...

Gelbs - in your first post you said "after Henry, it seems hard to find any" World Class Arsenal players, and now you own up to THREE.

Now, that wasn't THAT hard was it??

Anonymous said...

Actually "Anonymous" is my real name - ain't got no mum & dad. Guess what that makes me...?

Goonerboy said...

Come on guys, less polemic. Whether you disagree with Gelbs or not, at least he's provoking debate and asking sensible questions.

world class players at Arsenal:

Lehmann
Toure
Senderos
Cole [ex]
Gilberto
Fabregas
Hleb
Rosicky
Henry
Van Persie
Reyes

And players like Clichy, Walcott, Adebayor, Eboue will get better. Adebayor was excellent for Togo in the world cup.

Helge Årsvoll said...

I have been an Arsenal-supporter for over 20 years, and like to think that we never ever have had any world-class - players. Why do we need to think of which kind of category a player is in? They have to be good enough to compete for a place in the team and in the squad. Thats it.

Tony Adams, Ian Wright, Vieira, Bergkamp, Henry... some players which was/is not world-class players, all of them. It depends on when and how they perform. I would like to see a new Ian Wright and Tony Adams, even if they do not reach your category of being a world-class player.

LOL whenever I post I always create a debate! The reason I didn't mention other two players like Toure and Rosicky, was because I was pointing out Henry as the key one. I disagree about Hleb. He needs another season to prove what he can do. Plus I don't like the fact he looks a twat with the way he does his socks. Reyes has the potential but never releases it, Senderos is still learning and although I like him, I still am unsure about him. It is hard to call these players world class because they are young. They have the potential to be world class players but as of current or not yet. Compare our players one by one to Chelsea as an example. Although I know people will say we can't compete with them financially I know, that isn't what I am debating but a few examples;

Terry Toure
Gallas Senderos
Cole(pending) Clichy
Makelele Gilberto
Ballack Fabregas
Essien Flamini
Lampard Song

Practically all of Chelsea's team is world class. At least quality proven. You take away our heart in midfield of Cesc and Gilberto, leaves you with a massive, massive problem. Plus neither of those two are ball-winners.

David s said...

Like Helge said, world class is only an opinion, which will never be agreed with by everyone. As Ramsey proved with england in 66 you don't have to have 11 world class players in your first 11 you need a balanced 11. Look at 98 when we won the league who was vieira and petit before then, they were nothing then all of a sudden their one of the best patnerships the world has ever seen! and look what happened to them once petit left he disappeared into obscruity before retiring and vieira began to slowly decline. The fact of the matter is if you have the right system good players can look world class, but with a wrong system world class players only look average. Henry can look average in the wrong system he suffers when isolated but no one in their right mind would say he's not world class. So my point is its the system that makes you look world class.
But on another note Gelbs shud still just shut up for a bit and get a job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous Bastard said...

Having previously dissed gelbs - I now withdraw all my insults. Gelbs - you're are a VERY funny man. Hleb's socks - that IS funny!

Gelbs said...

lol. Actually I do have a job. I work for Arsenal FC. I get paid to get people's opinions on AFC's current squad and report back to Mr. Wenger my findings.

Deciduous Guacamole said...

Lampard world class? (Titter titter).

What a moron.

I guess you had your head up your arse every time England played then Gelbs?

Anonymous Bastard said...

Told you he was a funny guy!

Anonymous Bastard said...

Lampard's the best wide player in the world!

McG said...

lol. Gelbs I have to laugh

"Plus I don't like the fact he looks a twat with the way he does his socks"

You are right that is essential criteria for any player to fit the world class category.

On a different note i wonder what TH14 thinks about this lack of transfer activity after it was widely reported assurances were given to him about the possible transfer targets for AW.

Anonymous said...

Arsenal made a big mistake by allowing Gilbert to go out on loan. I dont know if I am alone here but from what I saw of him last season I felt he was much better than Eboue!

This young team has a lot of potential and with two more quality signings could mount a serious challenge for the title. My biggest concern though is Gilberto. I dont think he has it in him anymore and if he puts us through another inconsistent season then we will have problems. If he plays well then Arsenal plays well, showing just how important his role is to the team.

On the subject at hand, I would love and cant wait to see the back of Cole. I have grown to hate him and feel that he deserves Chelsea as much as they deserve him.

Gelbs said...

No England player did well at the WC. So none of them are world class? Reason England did shit was because of completely and utter useless cunt of a manager who had no idea how to play them in a sytem that worked. I hate Lampard. But can't doubt his record for chelsea...Moron. Henry had a poor world cup by his standards as well. So is he not world class neither? Oh, and Ronaldinho. He was completely anonymous too for Brazil. So is he not the world's best player and far from being world class?

Wanker.

Anonymous Bastard said...

Did someone say "wanker"?

Deciduous Guacamole said...

Gelbs where do you get this shit from? Did you take a copy of "The Rothmans book of crappy football cliches" and your scrapbook of "Things John Sadler wrote that make me want to pleasure myself" and form this vaguely "I want to look knowledgeable" persona?
Cos Gary Neville's got a great record at Old Trafford. next thing you'll be telling me he's world class as well.
What a retard.

Gelbs said...

No it's called common sense. And I noticed you avoided my point about Ronaldinho and Henry. So tell me. They both had a shit world cup. Ronaldinho inparticularly. So that doesn't make him world class because of that?

Anonymous Bastard said...

Did you know that Gary Neville's dad is actually call Breville Neville, and he invented the toaster. IT'S TRUE.

Gelbs said...

Is name is actually Neville Neville. Get yer facts straight.

goonermtl said...

Gelbs -

Quick lesson in football-speak.

World-class, according to your definition, seems to mean somebody who has had great seasons in the past.

Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy, Schevchenko, Ballack, guys like that.

Ok, if you want to go with that definition, then definitely Chelsea have way more than we do.

But since championships are not won in the past but in the future, then World-class could also mean players who are already having and will have even more great seasons.

Guys like Fabregas, Van Persie, Senderos would fit into that category.

You don't think Van Persie is "world-class"? Then why did Marco Van Basten play him ahead of Cunt Van Nistelrooy? Why did Van Basten say you can't not play Van Persie when you are fortunate enough to have him?

We're not talking about Togo, we're talking about Holland...

But if you want old guys with great reps and no legs, for sure, Arsenal don't have a lot of those.

Anonymous Bastard said...

So who invented the toaster - I'm confused....

Gelbs said...

Then why did Marco Van Basten play him ahead of Cunt Van Nistelrooy?

You already answered it yourself. Because horse-face is a cunt. And all he is fit for is scoring tap ins. Saying that, Arsenal need someone like that when Henry pulls out wide. Though not that cunt.

Anonymous Bastard said...

Gelbs - you did say: "lol Ljungberg is no-way world class. He was once."

Kinda of proves goonermtl's point a bit.

And Ljungberg's socks are very dashing.

Gelbs said...

Go make some toast for us all. Using your Breville machine lol.

Anonymous Bastard said...

Will do. Marmite or fish-heads?

Anonymous Bastard said...

Back on the subject, AW has had a year to contemplate the departure of Mr E.Coli, so surely there's a ready-made replacement once we've got the cash.

Clichy is not the complete deal, and Traore for the future. Can't believe we;ll revert to Flamini (much as I loved his heroics).

PS. Cup of tea, with you toast?

Gelbs said...

I'd like that Cole's bollocks on my toast plz. And Abramovich's head..

Going back to the world class subject. I never said world class is based just on what players have done in the past. It's the calibre of the player period. And although we had a weak squad (weaker now) than last season and injuries, world class players don't struggle to finish 4th in the league table. There was only one world-class player overall that helped us, and that was Thierry Henry. More the point, I am trying to say that we need players who are proven quality. Not a bunch of "potential" kids all the time. Same as I saw Anti post the other day. It is okay having a player with potential, but not a team in whole. Particularly one like Arsenal. As for Wenger saying Italian club's players wages being too high. That is shit coming from a man and a club who are paying Henry over 100k a week, Cygan 20k and the late Campbell 90 grand a week. Total contradiction. Not to mention this new stadium of ours supposed to of offered more financially.

Anonymous said...

Well here is the FIFA All Star squad:

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Jens Lehmann (Germany), Ricardo (Portugal).

Defenders: Roberto Ayala (Argentina), John Terry (England), Lilian Thuram (France), Philipp Lahm (Germany), Fabio Cannavaro (Italy), Gianluca Zambrotta (Italy), Ricardo Carvalho (Portugal).

Midfielders: Ze Roberto (Brazil), Patrick Vieira (France), Zinedine Zidane (France), Michael Ballack (Germany), Andrea Pirlo (Italy), Gennaro Gattuso (Italy), Luis Figo (Portugal), Maniche (Portugal).

Strikers: Hernan Crespo (Argentina), Thierry Henry (France), Miroslav Klose (Germany), Francesco Totti (Italy), Luca Toni (Italy).

Funny that. I see Henry's name, but I call him a world class player. And I see Lehmann. Admittedly not a lot else, but note that all of these made it to the group stages, which I'm sure was a criteria, and I don't see Lampard there even though he had more shots than any other player.

Maybe that's because, like the Neville brothers, he's shit in an England shirt.

And Ronaldinho had a shit world cup by his standards.

The people that chose this have great experience in watching and reporting football, and they are right in that only Terry acquitted himself well. The rest, Rooney included, are simply not world class (in this world cup or ones past).

Henry scored vital goals and set up his team for the final.

Poor by his standards? What are they then, P3 W1 L2 (inc 1 final). He can't do it all on his own, can he?

Let's face it, the only other decent striker France have didn't play.

So basically we had two of our players out of the world's best, which immediately blows your first claim out of the water.

Then, when you try and obfuscate the issue, I prove you still wrong.

Give it up Gelbs, go and play with the youngsters where you belong, and leave us grown ups to talk sense.

Gelbs, I think you should have a little more faith in the players we have. I agree that we need new players, but only one or two. I think we should concentrate on creating a good team, rather than just getting 'world-class' players in. I will be concerned if Arsene doesn't bring anyone in though. We need to thicken the squad somewhat.

I also think that Chelsea have bought more than they need - I'm really intrigued as to how they are going to play Ballack, Lampard, Essie and Makelele together.

East at the Grove said...

i have to be honest and I don't usually post on these things but a lot of what Gelbs says is actually correct in my opinion. How many current Arsenal players would get into a world 11 team?? In fact how many would be included in 2 world 11 teams.

Don't get me wrong I have a lot of faith in the team and Le Boss, but a few years ago you'd have had 3-4 and now there is probably just 1.

That list doesn't mean shit. The same people, FIFA that is, that ranked the Czech Republic the second best team in the world. Only to fail miserably in the group stages. And why you posted that for is completely pointless. All because I called Lampard world class? He has had two fantastic seasons at Chelsea. Even though he is a cunt. Or maybe it was the rest of the players at Chelsea that made him look good? Either way, he did better than all of our midfielders last season. And maybe Henry isn't world class? Maybe it is his fellow team-mates that make him look better? Though I don't agree with that. Just making points. And what about how average Arsenal did in Europe for years until last season? That was with Henry and co. So according to your points, perhaps you mean that Henry isn't actually world class because if he was, he would of done better in Europe just as people like Vieira etc should of? Henry played poorish in the WC because there was no support from the wide players or midfielders. Whereas when Arsenal play 4-5-1, he gets the support because Arsenal attack. And in FIFA's list you just gave me, those midfielders piss all over our centre-midfielders. Where is Gilberto in the list, where is Fabregas? Surely if they are world class they would be in there? And you think you prove me wrong? bah.

And Gooner I agree about 2 players needed. This whole debate has gotten out of hand lol. When we won the title back in 2004, all over our first 11 and squad was world-class/proven experienced/good.
Now we mainly have potential which isn't good enough. That is my point I am trying to make. And we all know it.

I'm sure AW will bring in a couple of top signings before the season starts and he is just waiting on the Cashley Hole situation to sort itself out and in which case we shall be challenging for honours again. If we don't however we are well short of the top 3.

I think what Gelbs is trying to say is just what he said in the transfer rumours post the other day: that some Arsenal fans are concerned at the lack of players coming into the club, when compared with the players we're losing.

I remember a while back I wrote a post entitled: 'Campbell, Henry, Cole, Pires: one will leave but which?' [this was in late April/early May I think] I never thought we'd be on the verge of losing three of them; but, importantly, we've kept the best of the bunch.

I think we're all just going to have to be patient. Especially if Wenger takes the Cash for Ash, I can't see him not buying anyone. And 'realgooner' is right - our best chance of beating Chelsea is not by franticly panic-buying suposedly 'world-class' players - it's by Arsene carefully contemplating what type of players will fit into our system. We can make a , team capable of challenging Chelsea, even if we can't match their ability to buy players.

And anyway, what players do people think should replace Cole?

Gelbs,

Important facts for ignorant retards to remember:

(a) The FIFA ranking system is owned and run by FIFA based on a complex (and ludicrous) set of algorithms and co-efficients, which even put USA in the top ten. We all know it's knob cheese.
(b) The All Star Squad is chosen by the Technical Study Group who watch the teams train and play, and discuss it among themselves. They are all football people (about the only one a twat like you *might* know is Roy Hodgson).

Fabregas probably wasn't considered for this because he's going to be adjudged a *young* player.
Gilberto is overrated in my opinion (and I think our big new pitch will show how ineffective he really is).

All of the idiots that are moaning about us losing Pires, Campbell, etc., don't realise these people contributed next to nothing last season. The people we are talking about now, Eboue, Djourou, Clichy, Senderos, Toure, are players who are not even near their prime and will only get better, and got the best of the Italian Champions, Real Madrid whilst still gelling as a unit.

As far as I'm concerned we need a centre half to fill Campbell's slot, but otherwise we are stacked full of talent that will get better and better as time goes on.

It's cunts like Gelbs that keep bleating about Wenger that are too fucking thick to realise that unless you are Chelsea and you spend 50 million a year, you can't stack a team with 100% proven top (and I stress top, not world) class players.

Even the superb AC Milan side of the early 90s had the quiet ones, who went about their business, never shone but always produced.

Wenger is the best manager our club has ever had bar none, and the only way is up.

So if all you want to do his drag him and our team down, then fuck off to the Kings Road and
share your nonsense with the rest of the glory hunting tossers.

Amen Peace Be Upon You Go in Peace my Son etc.

Lmfao! I'm flattered! Least when I post Gooner you know you'll get a shit load of comments lol. I don't really care anyway if people agree with me or not. All I am doing is just telling it like it is. We should all be optimistic for the future, but you judge on your last season. Just as when we went unbeaten in 2004. We were the best and ppl thought we could go unbeaten again. Now we struggled 4th position, you have to go by that. And when you lose your best players, or experienced players, and so-far not bought in replacements. You have to ask "what the fuck is going on!" As for replacements for Cole. I don't think there will be one. A proven one. Flamini and Clichy be Wengers backups. Or Cygan. I also think Song will be used as a centre-back next season. God help us.

realgooner said...

If Cole is sold, Arsene will buy a centre back and a defensive midfielder.
I dont see him buying a left back.
We will have to make do with Clichy and Flamini.

East at the Grove said...

I think that Wenger should tell Chelsea that unless we get Gallas as part of the deal then Cole is going nowhere. As somebody pointed out earlier 16m is not a great deal of cash for a relatively young English international and we are in no particular need to sell.

(Apart from the little obnoxious cunt being a rat faced rent boy of course).

Gallas fits the criteria of being a little older and wiser to blood in the young talent and of course he can play centre half or left back when Clichy misses 2/3 of the season through injury.

(

realgooner said...

ACK!!! Gelbs and I have the same opinion.
Move over people I need to jump off the cliff.

Gelbs said...

Brian Clough was great. But look what happened to him and Forest?

And as for that other cunt who says we can't buy all these proven players unless we are Chelsea is utter bollocks. For starters, Wenger hardly spent any money on our top team in 2003/2004 squad, and still made it great. Even if Wenger had billions to spend he wouldn't because he isn't like that. I bet if he had the choice of some forward youngster for 2 million or Torres for 14 he would go for the former. And there are plenty of proven players out there for the right price. And if we have no money to spend period because of our new stadium, then Arsenal have made a mistake in moving then. Certainly for the next 10 years or so until everything is paid off. And before the new stadium was ever mentioned, Wenger never spent loads of money on players did he? And going on what we read now, he had more money back then he did now. Maybe if he spent it, we would of won the title in 2000 and 2001 rather Man United.

Anonymous Bastard said...

I think that what history will show is that, for the first time in 50 years, Arsenal are no longer a selling club.

Campbell left because the club was happy for him to go.

Pires was offered a year and wanted two.

Cole wants to leave, but the club does not need to sell him.

THAT is the critical factor of the new stadium - that we can turn down any offer (e.g. Fabregas), and that we will no longer HAVE to sell players to make the books balance.

And there's only a handful of clubs in the world that can say that.

ask goonerboy how (http://www.newsnow.co.uk/newsfeed/?name=Arsenal ?) this works. His blog is picked up by arsenalworld.com

Goonerboy said...

To get picked up via newsnow, you have to write your blog for a while, and then submit your site to them. Mine had been going for about two months, and after about 4 or 5 applications they finally accepted me. So if you want to set up your own blog and be put on newsnow, you can do it.

Also, Gunnerblog made an offer of allowing you to post on his site. Have you considered that?

Just checked and www.hlebstwattysocks.com is still avaiable, which is astonishing...

Gelbs, "Wenger spent hardly any money on our top team in 2003/04 squad and still made it great."
Errrr, why don't you have faith that he can do it again then? Especially with this crop of youngsters. I think a midfielder of about 25 or 26 and an experienced defender of a similar age. What about the Czech dude Grygera? plays centre half or left back.

Goonerboy said...

Well, sorry, to be more precise, you have to set up your own site, attach the site to feedburner [easier than it sounds], and then submit that to newsnow, so that they can read the headlines off the site. I know a few people used to access the site via 'soccerblogs.com' which ammalgamates quite a few football blogs for an American(?) audience.

I think newsnow don't put you straight into the feed in case your site isn't actually connected to Arsenal.

Because Wenger didn't buy kids. He bought older players.
What did you mean about Gunner asking me to post on his site? I know he asked me to contact him but I think that was just to make my comments in general. I since emailed him saying someone was personating me lol. He is slow to reply back though. Was that what you was on about Gooner?

BREAKING NEWS>>>>>
Mourinho has just made an offer for Ashley Cole.

OFFER: £20m + Wayne Bridge + Shaun Wright-Phillips + 2.7 tonnes of gold bullion + 43m2 of crazy paving (which has to be collected) + free groceries for a year.

THIS IS TRUE

Can anyone think of the last shit left back we have had??

You can't include players just covering there like Cygan.

Ever since I started going Arsenal have had great left backs. Sammy Nelson, Kenny Sanson, Nigel Winterburn, Silvinho, Cole.

Anonymous Bastard said...

I remember seeing Matthew Upton playing at left-back for us, not long after we signed him. I think it was against Crystal Palace. He was MINT. Shame he left.

Anonymous Bastard said...

Sorry - Upson - Goddamn Guatemalan keyboard.

Anonymous Bastard said...

Go on gelbs - have the 100th post - you deserve it!!!!

East at the Grove said...

I think you are missing the point. The last SHIT left back....

My old man has just come up with a fella called Freddie Clark.

Any of you go back to the 60's??

Anonymous Bastard said...

I wasn't missing the point - just that as soon as you as you play that position for The Arse, you can't help but be good.

Gelbs said...

Lmao deserve the 100 post.

East at the Grove said...

It is incredible the players we have been blessed with in that position. Before Nelson was Bob McNab if my memory serves me correct.

Gelbs said...

Nelson Vivas played there a few times. And he was shit. Remember he was at fault when he replaced Winterburn against Leeds in 1999 when we lost 1-0 in the last minute and ultimately lost the title.

East at the Grove said...

That was one of the only times I have heard Wenger openly critisise a player in the press. He lost JFH at the far post.

Gelbs said...

Yep remember that. JFH always scored against us as well. 1999 bad year for us. Man U treble and 'coz Bergkamp missed that penalty. Shame.

jobby said...

Yes Gelbs your great, loadsa comments when your about, shame half them are posted by yourself. I also think the fact that no other sites are updating and its such a slow news day that people are desperate to read any shite, to avoid doing some work of course.

Gelbs said...

Nice to see u read what I have to say babe xx.

Gelbs, will you marry me? Then we can have annoying kids that talk bollocks all day. I think my husband likes boys and phones more than me...Wanker!!

Why do you always slag off Arsenal when no OTHER team in the EPL has ever done what weve done on ANY budget?

Fcuk your stupid opinions they suck just like your gal.

Last season, part of me was hoping that we would finish fifth and miss out on the Champions League spot. Reasons:
1. A lot of cash for Thierry Henry. He's a good player for us, but by the time this team gets going, he'll be reduced to playing cameos like Bergkamp.
2. It would've made this season's campaign vital. No more waiting 2-3 years for players to mature. No more hiding behind excuses like competing against Chelski and growing a team. We'd have to do what Liverpool and Man U do, and try to compete.
3. Wenger would have had to start buying squad players to augment the thread-bare first team.

However, we've snuck in fourth, and reached the final. Wenger's validated; his approach was correct. And so, he vaciliates and hestitates. He doesn't buy quality like Saviola and Buffon (don't tell me Arsenal can't find 12 million if they have to). He will give chances to unready kids(Song, Walcott, Bendtner probably).
So this season, we're in the same position as the last. We'll do alright at home, struggle away, sneak in fourth/fifth and have a run in Europe.
And I'm left secretly hoping that we'll finish fifth this year..

East at the Grove said...

Fucking stupid comment.

You are no Arsenal fan if you want to finish fifth.

FUCK RIGHT OFF.

Deciduous Guacamole said...

Saviola wants to stay in Spain, and Buffon wants to stay in Italy.
So stop talking fucking shite, you sound like that other chelski-supporting onanist.

And what kind of players do you think we'd have got playing in the UEFA Cup? What a twat, do you not think getting fourth was a huge boost to our youngsters which will aid their development? AW knows what he is doing, last season was necessary, but a look at how we played in the second half of last season fills me with confidence for the future, you sir (5.39am) sound like a glory hunter to me.

Deciduous Guacamole said...

Ruh Roh Freddie's injured again.

May miss both CL legs. Thankfully we aren't short in the winger department.

Hleb on the right, Rosicky on the left.

Suits you sir.
