Sol's back! Great?

So the man who has now given his name to a pub drinking tecchnique - the 'swift half' and then leave - is back to face Pompey tonight. Good news? Qui sait. Personally if Phil's gonna be rested I'd have rather seen Djourou get a chance because, I dunno, he hasn't walked out on the team in an hour of need, not apologised to the fans about it, and also not looked dodgy almost everytime he's played this season. Just a thought.

A tough game tonight with Pompey right back in form and seeking to extricate themselves from the relegation dogfight. We've got TH and Jose back , but we'll have to wait and see.

The librarian is staring at me![see ydays post] so have to go. Post may be quite late tomorrow.

Come on boys! Must win tonight.

why should Sol apologise, where was the apology from all the Arsenal fans when we where ripping Freddie to bits and calling him shite and shouldnt be in the first team and should be sold, even though maybe not on form but trying hard, and now hes showing more form we all love him again, fucking fickle or what!!

I happen to know why Sol's going through such a hard time in his personal life, if you all knew then you'd realise what insensitive shits you are. Sol has been outstanding for us for five years and we're supposed to hate him because of one bad half? He's been fit for about three weeks but it's been Wenger's choice not to play him, not Sol's. You say you're paying supporters, so I'll take it I'll see you at Fratton Park tonight? Thought not!

tell us what u know then!

Gice sol a break you tit, he's a human being regardless of what he's being paid and like most people at some point in there lives going through a personal crisis at the moment...so back off and give him some support you fickle pric@!

Yeah, tell us what you know Dear Deirdre...................what nothing.........thought so...!!

I have been a Season Ticket holder for the past 10 seasons....so I think I would call myself a paying supporter... and are you there tonight?? how many games in the past 10 season have you been too...

blah blah blah ...poor old Sol...£100k a week...blah blah...hard life... these footballers dont live in the real world and they would never survive with what ordinary PAYING supporter go through in everyday life...

share your knowledge then...?

I think we all do support every player but I dont see why we should always bend over and take it up the a*se whenever they have a tought time... we all have them but we dont walk out on our work and let eveyone down...

support is one thing, but it is the players responsibilty to keep that trust otherwise its just taking the piss out of every fan that goes to see them each week...

I'm not gonna violate Sol's confidence by revealing his distress to the likes of you. I have been a season ticket holder for eleven years (I'm only 22) and have been on the away scheme for four years. I will be at Fratton Park tonight, just as I was at Doncaster, Sunderland, Thun, Turin etc. As for the homophobic fuckwit, why don't you just crawl back into the hole you came from. I'll be in row 4, near the corner flag in a redcurrant hoodie. Look for me on the box fairweather boys!

Come on "Sol's Brother" .... You give it the biggun saying you know what he's going thru and then dont follow it up......sounds like a load of b*llocks from the "Sol Campbell Fan Club" to me......

Let's hear it then....

Anonymous said...

To the like of us!! We're fellow Arsenal fans mate... dont talk to us like sh*t, regardless of everyones opinions....theres no need to give it and then bottle out by just giving your row and not seat number...

Ok, so you dont want to reveal the truth...fair enough (good on ya if you are his mate).... but can you at least give us a clue or something that might stop all the Sol bashing???!!

I have read all your comments and it just typifies the anti Semitic racist country that we live in. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Still you all probably too naive and easily led to have an adult point of view without demeaning someone.
What you fail to realise is that by abusing one you are condemning thousands. Its people like you that give this country a bad reputation.

To anon 12.09: the use of any racist words, such as 'yid', will not be tolerated on this site.

Similarly, to anon 12.33, homophobic comments are also not acceptable.

I have temporarily left this comments up to show people what IS NOT acceptable on Goonerboy. They will be deleted subsequently.

If the debate in the comments re-descends into this kind of thing again, I will turn comments off or merely instantly delete comments I find unacceptable.

Bigots are not welcome on the site.

Following 12.53 Anon's statement I have decided to delete the comments instantly, as I have no desire for any such statements to be left on my site for any amount of time.

This matter will be raised in my post tomorrow.

For now, I'm leaving comments on, but will be regularly checking them. ANY racist, homophobic, or other form of unacceptable comments will be removed from the site.

If necessary I will turn comments off - but i really hope it does not have to come to that.

Goonerboy.

Good on ya Goonerboy....i'm sure we can all have discussion (heated or not!) without being racist in anyway... but although I totally agree with this ..I do think anom 12.53 might have got the wrong end of the stick as the term that was used referred to Spurs and has been used for a long time plus I might add that maybe he should realise that its not a racist slur as the Spurs fans themselves actually use the term to refer to themselves....as it Y** Army..

But anyway good move Goonerboy

Well we all have off days... but his salary should have been suspended. £100,000 a week for having existential angst. No way.

At least he wasn't sacked, is what he should be thinking. I don't care if he is gay or his dad died or his girlfriend is underage or any of it. He wlaked out on the team, he's lost his recovery pace an dstrength... so what is the point of Sol Campbell anymopre? He can't pass water, let alone a ball an dthe big wages are unfair on the Kolos and Phils of the world...

Flog the dead horse.

I'd like Sol to come back and start playing well but then I don't think thats the was forward witht his team. You have a a nice central back pairing and I think Wenger needs to think about strengthing that by buying a good centre half. Sol is a gutless feck who ran away from his problems and for that and his desertion of Arsenal FC he should apologise to us. Either way I'd like us to flog him and get a bit of cash for him while we can.

22 year old Gooner. You go to a hell of a lot of games and have held a season ticket for 11 years. You must be a very wealthy 22 year old!!!
Everyone has an opinion on Sol, he's had more than just 1/2 a bad game this season, but as he's back in the team tonight, we clearly need to support him. Chances are he'll be off in the summer and we'll still be waiting for an apology/explanation or whatever. Maybe when he goes, 22 year old Gooner can enlighten us?
Come on you Gooners!

Good to know you're taking a stand on racism and homophobia, though actually to call a Spurs player or supporter a 'Yid' isn't necessarily anti-Semitic. They themselves use the term proudly, often these days without knowing that a 'yid' is a Jew. Calling someone Yid or Yiddo, even when meant as a term of abuse, isn't comparable to, say, the hissing - escaping gas - noises that Feyernoord supporters make at Ajax. That's knowlegeable, intentional anti-Semitism and it coexists with other varieties of racism, which thankfully I've never encountered among Arsenal supporters. The same can't be said for homophobia, though. Sad that Ashley felt he couldn't just say, 'As it happens I'm not gay, but so what if I was?'.

I'm all for censoring abusive comments full stop. Who wants to read them? I don't care if some boring, hate-filled inarticulate moron thinks a player is a cunt or a twat or faggot (or whatever sexist, homophobic words he can manage to spell). The only reason for looking at sites such as this one is to have some discussion. An analysis of Sol versus Djourou, for example: who would do better tonight against Lua Lua?

Sol has had his day that is it - should be flogged this summer.. end of. As to above post v. interesting... I reckon that Djourou is not only better than Sol but has A LOT more potential than Senderos. He has pace and the few times I have ben priviliged to watch him play thi season I have been astounded at how nimble he is and his footwork is great. Obviously helped by the fact that he is 6'5 at 18 yrs old!!! Imagine a fast and taller senderos next to Kolo and that's what we have in the pipeline!!! I also wish to mention Gilbert who before the emergence of Eboué (obviously excellent) was absolutely fantastic not only in his passing and approach play but he is what I feel a 'proper defender' he will stick his go-nads in there if necessary. Anyone see a way for Lauren back in the team? In place of Gilberto (provide some competition for placed next season??)

You can normally tell in the first 15-20 mins what sort of game we'll have, although it did not last on Sunday. I think the Pomps will be at it from kick off, but the Arse should have enough quality to pick them off. A 3-1 win, all being well, with TH14 getting two. I think they've re-laid their pitch, so that should suit the Arse style of football.
Djourou has not really put a foot wrong, much like Gilbert, so hopefully we'll see a lot more of them in the future.
Anyone with me on how much Gilberto has contributed in recent games. I know his passing is still shit, but he has vastly improved.

Goonerboy said...

I've thought Gilberto has been much improved recently, and I thought he particularly rose to the captaincy against ManU.

I think Sol has been a great servant for us since he's been here, but I can't see him getting back to his best.

Hence - train up the young 'uns and get Djourou in the side.

Re: the use of 'yid'. I know certain sections of Spurs fan use the epiphet themselves, but I'd still prefer not to see it on the site. Thanks.

Sol hasn't been the player we bought for well over a year now. Even early last season he was taking a longish time to recover from injuries and whenever he did come back, his positioning and timing were poor. Very much agree with the comments about Djourou. He looks potentially better than Senderos. I'd have liked to see him this evening and given Toure a much-needed rest. But I suppose two unfamiliar defenders would be a bit of a risk. Maybe Saturday he and Sol could play together - assuming Sol doesn't go missing tonight. That way, we can see how the various partnerships look, and our first-choice defenders will be fresh for Villarreal. I really like Senderos, he's bright, he reads the game well and he works hard to improve, but he doesn't have enough pace. I'd guess we'll need to buy a central defender this summer. Possibly Gallas, in part exchange for Ash? (Sad though that is.)
